![]() ![]() In November 2021, the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA) replaced the FAST Act and significantly increased the amount of federal funding which will be available to the Atlanta region over the next five years. The current TIP and RTP were developed in 2020 under the Fixing America’s Surface Transportation Act (FAST Act) legislation. Highway Trust Fund dollars are dispersed to the states based on a formula spelled out in the transportation spending bill passed by Congress. The Highway Trust Fund is comprised of the Highway Account, which is administered by the Federal Highway Administration, and the Mass Transit Account, which is administered by the Federal Transit Administration. The fund has struggled to keep up with the state’s needs, given increased fuel efficiency and rising construction costs. This includes revenues from the Highway Trust Fund, which is supported by a national fuel tax of 18.4 cents per gallon on gasoline and 24.4 cents per gallon on diesel. ![]() Projects in the TIP must be fully funded.įunding sources for transportation include: FederalĪbout $45.5 billion of the region’s transportation funding will come from federal sources. The current TIP covers the first six years of the RTP. The current RTP includes $172.6 billion of investments through 2050 to maintain and improve metro Atlanta roads, highways, transit and bicycling/walking facilities.ĪRC also develops a Transportation Improvement Program (TIP), which allocates federal funds for use in construction of the highest-priority transportation projects contained in the RTP. ARC is responsible for developing a long-range Regional Transportation Plan (RTP), the transportation component of the Atlanta Region’s Plan. The NCI oncology groups including ACOSOG, COG, ECOG, SWOG, and CALGB all mandate that the radiotherapy materials for their protocols be sent to QARC for review. As the federally-designated Metropolitan Planning Organization for the Atlanta region, the Atlanta Regional Commission (ARC) works with state and local transportation agencies, local governments and other partners to prioritize federal funding for transportation projects in the 20-county Atlanta region.Īny transportation project or program in the region utilizing federal funds must be approved by ARC and be included in the Atlanta Region’s Plan, the region’s comprehensive, long-range plan. Past and present pharmaceutical contracts for clinical trials at QARC include Sanofi-Aventis, Amgen, and GlaxoSmithKline. It also collaborates with its UMASS Medical School affiliate in matters pertaining to accounting and employment. The Operations department is predominantly focused on constructing and sustaining working relationships between QARC and the various NCI supported oncology groups as well as the pharmaceutical industry. With the shift toward nuclear medicine in radiology, QARC seeks to build and maintain a vast database with its data management division. Occasionally, QARC will obtain Gallium and Bone scans insofar as a protocal mandates them. The diagnostic imaging segment of data management usually involves Computed Tomography (CT), Positron Emission Tomography (PET), and Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) scans. Typical forms of data include diagnostic imaging, physics benchmarks, and radiology reports. The Data Management division receives and processes all forms of data relating to any given patient on any given protocol. In keeping with its responsibility as a quality assurance agent, the department participates in initial, interventional, and final reviews so as to assure the highest degree of integrity with regard to protocol guidelines. In addition, the department works closely with various institutions, which include the public oncology groups and the private pharmaceutical industry, to develop and implement new benchmarks for specific areas of radiation therapy. The Physics/Dosimetry department is primarily concerned with evaluating the radiation dose calculations submitted with each patient on any given protocol. QARC is divided into three separate sectors, namely that of Physics/Dosimetry, Data Management, and Operations.
